Prugh Falls in Quarterfinals of U.S. Amateur

Sept. 1, 2006

Chaska, Minn. - Husky senior Alex Prugh ended his run at the 2006 U.S. Amateur, falling in the quarterfinals to Wake Forest's Webb Simpson. The Spokane, Wash. native fell 2 and 1 to the Wake Forest junior at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn. Prugh never led in the quarterfinal.

Prugh posted a solid showing at the U.S. Amateur, roaring back from a first-day finish of 67 to a second-round tie for fifth place that qualified him for match play. In the first round of match play, Prugh defeated BYU senior Daniel Summerhays 2 and 1 after carding two birdies in the final four holes to clinch the second round berth. Prugh needed 22 holes to defeat Towson's Jeffrey Castle in round two, using a birdie on the 22nd hole of the match to advance to the third round. Prugh cruised to the quarterfinals with a 7 and 5 victory over Mark Strickland before falling to Simpson.
